Midwest City Police Giving Back To Families This Holiday Season With Shop With A Cop Event

The Midwest City Police Department is giving back to families this holiday season. They hosted their annual Shop with a Cop event.

More than 60 kids shopped through the aisles at Walmart.

“My oldest, she's already made her list so I want to make sure she gets everything she wanted,” Kortney Brown, a mother, said.

Brown has three daughters.

“Having three girls it's kind of tough, so I wanted to make sure that they had a good Christmas this year,” Brown said.

Midwest City police officers were there to help her, and other families check things off their list.

“When I come here, and I see all the smiling children and their happy faces. It's the true meaning of Christmas giving,” Chief Sid Porter said.

Midwest City Police said this is all possible due to donations from the community.

Each kid is given $100. If they go over their limit, there's someone to help pick up the tab.

Officers put in some of their own money, Tondaleair Williams following suit.

“I just went and broke some hundreds and got it in twenties and start passing them out to the kids,” Williams said.

Williams said this is the season of giving.

“Even if it's just a small thing. One extra toy could put a smile or make the difference, you know a good Christmas for a kid and not. I've been there before, and so I know what a blessing it is what these guys are doing over here,” Williams said.

“We're all brothers and sisters. As you saw the love here today if the world would take an idea of what loving your brothers and sisters is about we wouldn't have a lot of these problems that we have,” Chief Porter said.

Brown said for her and her three girls this means the world to them.

“Our family likes to give. We love to give and give back. For you guys to do this for us it means a lot,” Brown said.
