A Shawnee woman said the college she graduated from never gave her the diploma she earned. Now she can’t advance in her career.
"We didn’t really learn anything while we were there,” said Brandi McCaul who graduated from Platt College.
Some people don’t feel the money we put into college returns the favor.
“They didn’t offer us anything upon leaving the school,” McCaul said.
McCaul certainly feels this way.
“It’s tough,” she said. “It’s hard.”
McCaul completed a surgical tech program at Platt College, but she has no diploma to show for it. Platt College never mailed her a diploma. She wants to take her certification test but can’t unless she has that document. McCaul graduated in 2019, and there’s another problem.
“All of their campuses are completely closed down,” McCaul said.
Platt College’s former buildings currently sit empty. A receptionist who answered one of the phone numbers listed online confirmed that fact. The receptionist said Platt College was rebranded as Miller-Motte College in Tulsa. None of their administrative leaders were available to comment. They said they’d call back when they’re available.
McCaul knows what she put into college.
“23,720 dollars,” McCaul said.
She still works as a surgical tech for OU Children’s Hospital.
“I’m lucky I was able to get a job,” McCaul said.
However, she can’t leave for another opportunity.
“Then I have basically nothing,” McCaul said.
Because the proof of the work she completed at Platt College was never returned.
“I wish they would do right,” McCaul said.
McCaul said her current employer helped train her and understood her situation. However, some of her classmates were not able to get jobs because of this issue.
