Oklahoma City police are investigating the city's third homicide of the year.
Police say the call came in late Monday night as a shooting on the far northwest side in a neighborhood near Hefner and Rockwell.
Officers say they arrived to find a young man dead from a gunshot wound.
“It’s unclear what led up to it,” says OCPD MSgt. Gary Knight. “It appears that he was in the residence with several other teenagers.”
A woman who lives in the home tells News 9 she knows the teenagers involved. She says they were her 18-year-old son’s friends.
She says she was asleep when the shooting happened. Many of the teens fled including her son who she says hasn’t been back since.
“I don’t know if they were playing with the gun or if this was an unintentional act,” says Knight. “At this point, we’re still trying to work all that out.”
Knight says police have identified the individual who likely fired the gun, but the department is still trying to locate him.
Police have not yet released the victim's name.
