Oklahoma City Police have a new tool they said will help fight crime and prevent needless deaths.
The new weapon has a visible orange strap to let officers and citizens know it's not deadly.
The launching tool has two separate rounds it can fire: foam impact and oleoresin capsicum powder, a main ingredient in pepper spray.
The department released body camera video of a recent situation where officers used both rounds, stopping the pursuit suspect without using lethal force.
"It is a de-escalation tactic," OCPD MSgt. Scott Sanders said. "It is something that brings us the ability to [use] something besides lethal force.
Officers said they have 130 less-than lethal weapons that will be handed out in the next few months.
