Mid-Del Schools said the safety of their students is their main priority. They're adding new rules to their athletic events, so students and families can enjoy the games without any issues.

If you want to attend a Mid-Del School game, the athletic director, Andy Collier, said there's going to be a few changes.

“We have student IDs here in Mid-Del. You have to show those to get in. The teams that were playing, the fanbase if they're students, they need a student ID to get in,” Collier said.

Collier said all games will now be closed meaning students not associated with the game cannot attend.

“If they don't have student IDs in their schools then we're asking an administrator from that school district to show up and identify their own students,” Collier said.

This comes after a shooting following a Del City High School and Millwood High School Basketball game. Del City police said the people involved were not associated with Mid-Del Schools.

“We want people to come and focus on the kids out there playing and not the surrounding people in the stands,” Collier said.

Collier said this does not impact alumni, family, and friends. The new procedures are mainly to make sure someone is being held responsible for students.

Many of the new procedures are modeled after rules put in place at local colleges. For example, no firearms and a clear bag policy.

“We took policies from outside events from UCO and looked at some of their prohibited items and what they do procedure wise and we kind of implemented that into our Mid-Del policy and procedures. We need to take care of our own first,“ Collier said.

These rules will be in effect for the big rivalry game between Del City and Midwest City Friday night.
