One person is dead and another person is injured after a chase ends in a crash in northeast Oklahoma City.
The chase started at around 2 a.m. on I-35 when the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said they were trying to pull over a truck for a traffic violation when the driver sped off.
OHP said Waymon Swanegan, 46, was pronounced dead on the scene. Clayton Banks, 48, was transported to the hospital.
Troopers said Banks was trapped inside the vehicle for about an hour, and was extracted by the Oklahoma City Fire Department.
The vehicle sped off quickly, but ended when the the vehicle crashed into a building near Northeast 23rd Street and North Prospect Avenue.
Trooper Eric Foster said OHP was struggling to keep up with the vehicle involved before it crashed, but that investigators found drugs in the truck following the crash.
"We're just trying to make sure we are identifying everybody in the vehicle," Trooper Foster said. "There were two in the truck and then [we] make sure there is nothing else in the truck that we need to be aware of."
While the driver was initially facing only a traffic complaint, Foster said he expects additional complaints resulting from the chase, crash and drug discovery.
