With temperatures at or below freezing, being outside for an extended period of time is not only uncomfortable, for the homeless it can be deadly.

That is where three friends that call themselves “The Arctic Angels” have stepped in, and for the homeless community they really are angels.

“Our life is about seeing others in the season that they are standing in and loving them in the season that they are standing in,” Arctic Angle, Delisa Jones of Second Chance Thrift Store, said.

For the ladies, loving their homeless friends and knowing they are sleeping outside in these temperatures is just not acceptable.

The team currently has 145 homeless people in hotel rooms across the city.

“We have 39 rooms here, at the Green Carpet, we have one family at the motel 6, we have 4 rooms at the Sands motel, 5 rooms at the hospitality inn, 2 rooms at Travelers inn,” Jones said.

Sadly, even with warm rooms available, there are still people not willing to come out of the cold.

“We go out there and we beg them, we beg. But we can’t bring them in, so what we do is we bring heaters and propane, and food and supplies,” Jones said.

“Their tents are their homes. And so, you can’t just pack up and leave with all your belongings in there because they’ll be raided,” Arctic Angel Jodi Berge said.

They started the mission about four years ago after realizing the shelters just weren’t for everyone.

“The shelters are amazing, but they get filled up so quickly, and people get put out so quickly,” Jones said.

With community help from churches and organizations across the city, the Arctic Angels are able to spread a message of hope to the homeless in their lowest time.

The ladies are all very passionate about helping their homeless friends and do so all year round. To support their efforts, reach out to them on Facebook; @Jodi Berge, @Delisa Jones, @Jessica Anne or visit Second Chance Thrift Store.
