Sassy Mama is in the kitchen cooking something perfect for Valentine’s Day! In Monday’s segment, Sassy shows the News 9 team how to make Valentine’s Day cut out cookies.

Ingredients:
- 1 package (17.5 oz) sugar cookie mix
- 1 large egg
- 1 stick + 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp almond extract
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- Pinch of salt
- Tiny heart cookie cutters
Directions:
- In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the butter until smooth.
- Add sugar, egg, vanilla and almond extract.
- Slowly add the sugar cookie mix, flour and salt.
- Mix just until all.flour is fully incorporated.
- Remove the dough from the bowl and separate into five equal portions.
- Take two of the balls, flatten into a disc and wrap with plastic wrap.
- Tint each of the balls with different colors by mixing in food coloring.
- Press each color into a disk and wrap with plastic wrap.
- Chill for at least an hour before rolling out.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- To assemble: Roll out the white cookie dough on a well floured countertop.
- Continue rolling with each colored disk.
- Use small Valentine cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
- Place the cutouts on the white cookie dough.
- Gently roll over the cut out outs to seal the shapes into the dough.
- Use a larger cookie cutter to make cookies.
- Put each cookie on a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
- Cool on a baking rack.
