A 20-year-old has been arrested in connection to a shooting and an hours-long barricade situation that happened Sunday morning in southwest Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma City Police said the scene started just after 11 a.m. when police responded to Brickell apartments on Southwest 77th Terrace in response to a shooting call. Officers found one victim outside the apartment with multiple gunshot wounds.
The suspect, Jeremiah Canaday, 20, barricaded himself inside of one of the apartments for hours before police were able to take him and the weapon used in the shooting into custody.
News 9 spoke with one of the neighbors on the scene who said he heard the gunshots.
“It sounded like someone hitting the side of my house," said George Haynes.
Haynes lives right across the street from the apartment complex and says he didn't even realize what he was hearing was gunshots.
“I didn't know what was going on my wife said she heard gunshots I didn't think they were," said Haynes. “Come back in and next thing you know the whole block is just full of police officers.”
“One of the police officers told me it was a high-powered rifle and that the house next door to my mom had actually got shot up," said Haynes.
Haynes says luckily, the home that was shot into is vacant, but says an incident like this, hits a little too close to home, making him fear for the safety of his family
“My wife found a bullet casing in her driveway- in my mom's driveway," said Haynes. “Going forward, I have no idea what's going to go on across the street.”
This is a developing story, stay tuned for updates.
