Police responded to a stabbing Tuesday night in Northwest Oklahoma City that happened after two neighbors got in a fight.

Police said the stabbing was severe.

Officers said things got pretty heated between neighbors at an apartment complex on Northwest 23rd and North Meridian Avenue Tuesday night.

“Citizens called 911 reporting a fight in a parking lot,” Captain Rod Strecker said.

When police got there, they said they found a man on the ground bleeding heavily.

“Our victim, a 32 year old Hispanic male appeared to have been cut, lacerated several times on the torso and in the upper head, face area,” Cpt. Strecker said.

That man was taken to OU Health in critical condition. As the paramedics were treating the victim, police said the suspect wasn't far away.

“He had been attacked by somebody wielding a knife. The suspect, strangely enough, was still there at the scene at an apartment, came walking out of a door where he was taken into custody immediately by officers,” Master Sergeant Gary Knight said.

Police took Gaspar Santiago into custody.

“For whatever reason for some time now they have been quarreling. They got into some kind of argument last night when the suspect produced a knife,” Msgt. Knight said.

Santiago was taken to the Oklahoma County Detention Center on one complaint of assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

“We've got investigation in route, we'll be collecting evidence and talking to the suspect and any witnesses,” Cpt. Strecker said.
