The police lights and crime tape are an all too familiar scene for one man who has worked in Bricktown for 17 years.

“After 10:30, you're on your own down here,” he said, requesting anonymity.

He said he’s used to seeing mayhem like fights and shootings, especially after dark.

“It's always happened down here,” he said.

And Saturday night was no exception, when Oklahoma City Police say a person stabbed eight people inside the Pink Parrot nightclub around 1 a.m.

“I found a guy laying right here,” he said pointing at the sidewalk just outside the nightclub. He said the man was bleeding from his arm.

“Cop come over and put a tourniquet on it,” he said. “Couple of girls come over and told him ‘Let the son b**** die.’”

He said he only saw one victim outside on the ground and trails of blood. He also said he saw multiple victims being loaded into ambulances.

“Oh, Bricktown is safe for families, it's not,” he said. “I don't come down here unless I have to work.”

Jessica Hicks from El Reno brings her family to Bricktown a couple of times a year. She was staying at a hotel nearby Saturday night.

“My husband walked by actually when they were putting the person in the ambulance,” Hicks said.

Luckily, she says she and her son were safe in their hotel room at the time of the stabbings. Even so, she says it won’t stop them from coming back.

“Obviously things have kind of changed a little bit at night with the bars and things, we try not to venture out too late but for the most part pretty safe,” she said.

Another man, who didn’t want to reveal his name, works across the street from the nightclub and feels safe in Bricktown. He said the heavy police presence at night helps.

“Especially on the weekends, around 1 o'clock, they're out here, they have the lights on they're keeping everyone safe, they're doing the best they can.”
