Five doubles and two home runs powered the No. 4 Oklahoma State softball team to a 10-6 victory over UTEP Sunday afternoon.
With the win, OSU improved to 13-1 and UTEP fell to 7-7.
A leadoff double from Rachel Becker started the contest and marked her 13th straight game with a hit. She advanced to third on a fielder's choice, then scored off a Kiley Naomi RBI double to put the Pokes on the board. An RBI single from Chyenne Factor scored Naomi.
Ivy Rosenberry came on to pitch the final four innings for OSU and secure the win.
Three straight doubles opened the second inning, with Megan Bloodworth and Rachel Becker each tabbing an RBI with their respective double. The Miners responded with a three-run home run that cut OSU's lead to 4-3 after two innings.
OSU immediately responded with five runs of its own, highlighted by a three-run shot from freshman Tallen Edwards. Katelynn Carwile opened the inning with a base on balls, then stole second. Another walk and an RBI single from Morgyn Wynne scored Carwile. A sacrifice fly from catcher Taylor Tuck scored another, bringing OSU's lead to 6-3. Edwards' blast to right field was her third homer of the season and extended the Cowgirls' advantage to 9-3.
Another home run from UTEP trimmed the lead to four, but OSU freshman Micaela Wark hit her third home run of the year, a solo shot to right field, to re-establish a five-run advantage for the Cowgirls.
Following two shutout innings from Rosenberry and the OSU defense, the Miners capped the scoring with a solo home run in the sixth.
The Cowgirls return to action at 2:30 p.m. CT on Friday, March 3 against Maine for the first game of the OSU/Tulsa Invitational. The Invitational will be held in Stillwater at Cowgirl Stadium, and features games against Missouri, South Dakota State and Tarleton State.
