Crews were in Cheyenne, Okla., all day Monday helping people clean up debris.

It was a heartbreaking day, the emergency manager confirmed one fatality and three other people were injured during the tornado.

Through the heartbreak, resilient Oklahomans came out to help their fellow neighbor.

The community of Cheyenne wasted no time working sunrise to sunset.

“I mean we’ve gone all day long. There has been some headway made but there are still a lot of days of just picking up debris. Picking up people’s livelihoods that are just scattered across pastures out there,” said Jace Marrow, the Youth Pastor at First Baptist Church in Cheyenne.

More than 100 volunteers showed up to repair the small town.

“You see this stuff on the news and it just kind of like we know what is to be expected with Oklahoma weather and then it hits your own community and then it kind of knocks you to your knees,” said Marrow.

“We did hear David Payne report on it being near raider and then like I said we lost our tv and we lost power,” said Karen Creach, a resident whose house was damaged in the tornado.

Marrow said it doesn’t take much for the small town of Cheyenne to rally around one another.

“Our youth group specifically last night had a chain text group of students ‘hey I’m ready to go when can we help, when can we serve.’ It’s really a no brainer to go ‘okay, let’s go y’all are chomping at the bit to go serve that is what we are here for,’” he said.

Meanwhile, Creach is counting her blessings.

She and her husband are waiting on the insurance adjuster after some damage to their camper and garage door.

“We’re just all so blessed you know lots of damage but just know that god took care of us, all of us, had our hands over us,” she said.

First Baptist volunteers will be out all week helping those affected.
