The City of Norman and Mayor Larry Heikkila have declared a disaster emergency as the community recovers from the Feb. 26 tornado.
In a proclamation issued to city residents, Norman officials said they are continuing recovery efforts and have hired a debris removal contractor, TFR Enterprises, Inc.
"The City of Norman is continuing its recovery process in the wake of the February 26, 2023, tornado that caused damage in Norman," the proclamation said. "Debris removal operations will soon begin."
The proclamation also said only Norman residential properties, not commercial or industrial properties, are eligible for debris removal.
"All residential neighborhoods that receive regular city services, sanitation or water services are eligible for debris removal," the proclamation said. "Norman residents are asked to continue to avoid storm damaged areas as the increased traffic will only delay clean up operations."
The city has also asked residents to place debris in locations suitable for removal.
