Tornado survivors are searching for hope after a long week. Many in Norman lost everything and others like CrossPointe Church will have to make several repairs.
“The damage to the building itself was the steeple we found in the soccer field about a hundred yards away. We had a big 12-foot by 12-foot overhead door that blew in and we had all kinds of water and damage and insulation throughout the building,” Trey Roberts said.
Roberts said repairs will take at least half a year.
“We're back open for business per se then we went out into the community,” Roberts said.
Crosspointe church said last week was all about loving your neighbor as you would love yourself. Volunteers took to the streets of the hardest-hit areas in Norman.
Volunteers with CrossPointe Church loaded up a church van with food and water. They handed out more than 1000 meals this week alone.
“They were hugging and it was wonderful. We had great weather the few days after the storm and it was really awesome to be able to see the people out in the community helping their neighbors so they can focus on rebuilding their house rebuilding their lives and the water and the food, just the prayers, the support really made a difference to them,” Roberts said.
CrossPointe Church is also serving as a hub for folks looking for services to get back on their feet. They've opened their doors to first responders and other groups looking to bring a glimmer of hope to Oklahomans picking up the pieces.
“It's the Oklahoma standard I believe. We just get out there and roll up our sleeves and help our neighbors,” Roberts said.
The church said they are still looking for volunteers. For more information on how to help CLICK HERE.
