The City of Edmond will begin renovations on the Mitch Park trails on Monday.
Park-goers will have access to the park and inner loop trails while crews start work on the first phase.
On Monday, construction crews will focus on rebuilding the trail base and laying down a new asphalt surface along the outer loop trails. Funding for the renovations are provided by the City of Edmond and American Rescue Plan Act funds.
“You will have a stronger base foundation, and a wider loop that will allow for more safe usage by the increasing traffic that we are seeing along the outer loop trails," City of Edmond marketing and public relations manager Bill Begley said. "It will be in good shape, by the end of the project visitors will have 5 to 6 miles of brand news trails."
Begley said the disc golf area and gravel parking lot on the west side of Santa Fe Ave will be closed to the public starting Monday as well.
During the first phase, visitors will still be able use the inner loop trails, but work on those will begin in the summer.
The first phase is estimated to take three months to complete.
