An argument at a northwest Oklahoma City restaurant over sold-out food turned violent in the parking lot.
A former Oklahoma City police officer was charged this week by Oklahoma County prosecutors for allegedly charging his truck at the owners of a metro restaurant, causing injuries.
The district attorney’s office charged 56-year-old Alvin Chandler with one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, the weapon being his truck.
Police said Chandler visited the Cornish Jerkhouse near 122nd and Pennsylvania Avenue earlier this month. The business owners told Chandler they were out of the menu items he wanted. Chandler got into a verbal argument with the owners that eventually moved outside to the parking lot.
Police said Chandler got into his truck and backed out at a high rate of speed in the direction of the two restaurant owners. One of the men flew on the hood of Chandler's truck and hit the ground. Police said the victim had road rash but nothing serious.
Chandler told officers the business owners initially came at him with guns.
“There was enough evidentiary value or footage to go against the story of the suspect there on scene,” Sgt. Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department said. “So, he was arrested for assault.”
Investigators said after reviewing security video it appeared Chandler intentionally charged at the victims. Investigators noted in court documents that Chandler had the ability to back up and leave without coming close to the victims.
The injured restaurant owners said they are still shaken up from the incident and shocked the suspect was a former law officer.
