A Yukon nonprofit assisting residents with items such as food, clothing and household goods is seeing a huge spike in calls for help from the community.
The Yukon Sharing Ministry has served almost 3,000 people since this time last year, but the nonprofit said the number of people needing help continues to grow.
The ministry said it receives some of its supply from the Regional Food Bank, but that group is also struggling, the nonprofit said.
One of the items flying off their shelves is fresh fruit.
"We try hard not to just have the snacks, junk food, crackers and cookies. We want to give people fresh produce and vegetables," executive director Missy King said. "As statistics show, people are going to buy cheaper food at the grocery store, and they probably don't buy fresh fruit or vegetables, so that's our need right now."
Yukon Sharing Ministry said the group can always use volunteers and donations of any kind, and will be open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
