A bill which would eliminate the statewide 4.5% sales tax on groceries has passed through the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
The bill's language said any sales or excise tax levied by a local government on said items will be unaffected, but that any new taxes created prior to June 30, 2025 cannot be applied to "food and food ingredients."
The bill now heads to the Oklahoma Senate, where a similar bill stalled out in 2022.
