The state has amended charges for the man accused of hitting and killing an Edmond police officer C.J. Nelson in 2022.
Investigators said Jay Fite had meth and other drugs in his system when he crashed into Nelson while driving on the Broadway Extension.
The state dropped the second-degree murder charge and filed an alternative count of first-degree manslaughter by speeding.
Fite was also charged with first-degree manslaughter for driving under the influence.
