Oklahoma City Police are investigating a string of burglaries targeting metro cell phone stores.
In some cases, the thieves were in and out of the stores before the security alarms went off. The thieves used a large rock to bust out glass windows and doors at 405 Phone Solutions near Northwest 16th and Meridian Avenue two weeks ago.
The owners of the store said they watched in shock as two thieves cleaned out cases full of phones and iPads.
“They’re doing it in one minute,” Mireya Cruz-Velasco, burglary victim, said. “In and out.”
Their faces cannot be seen due to masks, but one of the suspects left something behind.
“We did get fingerprints and so we’re waiting on fingerprints from the police department,” Cruz-Velasco said.
Cruz-Velasco has heard from other cell phone store owners who shared the same experience around the same time her store was hit.
“It’s the same people, same car doing it to different businesses,” Cruz-Velasco said. “Going in through the back, going in through the front. They’re getting in regardless.”
In one case, the suspect cut wires in the back of the store to turn off security cameras and alarms.
Oklahoma City Police have confirmed burglary cases at four locations across the city.
“As it turns out there are several more burglaries that could possibly be related,” Sgt. Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department said. “Have some of the same motives or appear to be connected in some way.”
The numbers are growing by the week.
“To my knowledge, I believe ten, but now I think it’s more than 15 stores,” Cruz-Velasco said.
Cruz-Velasco said store owners were banning together to stop the serial burglars and she had this message to the thieves.
“Get a job, stop stealing,” Cruz-Velasco said. “They need to stop.”
Contact Crime Stoppers at 405-235-7300 if you recognize the suspects in the video or have information that could help the investigation.
