The US Department of Energy awarded Oklahoma State University a $7 million grant to continue research and training for energy conservation in manufacturing.
The grant will fund the Great Plains Center of Excellence, inside the Endeavor lab, a federally designated Industrial Assessment Center on the OSU Stillwater campus.
“This award for the Great Plains Center of Excellence certainly fulfills our land grant mission and will further propel our efforts to solve society's most pressing challenges," said OSU President Kayse Schrum.
Oklahoma State is one of five schools splitting $19 million dollars, to broadly research energy conservation themes, with a focus on reducing carbon output and building up a workforce ready to handle a green energy transition.
Electric vehicle manufacturer Canoo, which plans to open a battery module assembly plant in Mayes County in a few months, was mentioned as one beneficiary of research the government encourages.
“Since this Made in America agenda was passed, 150 battery companies, or suppliers to battery companies, have announced they're opening up shop all across the nation,” said Secretary Granholm.
Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff accompanied the Secretary on the trip, which is part of a national tour promoting the Biden Administration infrastructure spending.
“The Department of Energy's Industrial Assessment Centers are training the next generation of energy savvy, smart engineers who are going to help change the world,” said Emhoff.
