Superintendent Charles Bradley released the following letter to families Tuesday morning:

MHS Families,
It is with a heavy heart that I confirm what many of you may have heard; Peyton Sims, a senior at Mustang High School, passed away yesterday evening in a car accident. Our sincere condolences go out to the family and all who have been affected by this tragedy.
A student death is a difficult and challenging situation that can generate a high level of anxiety and distress for students. We have grief counselors at MHS today to provide additional support to the school family.
If you feel that your student is having difficulty, we encourage you to discuss his/her thoughts and feelings to help them work through the grieving process. This can be a difficult subject to broach with your child(ren), and we want to provide you with this resource to help guide support for children of all ages. Please also consider monitoring and discussing your student’s communications (social media, phone, e-mail and/or text messages) to further assess needs and concerns. This website (https://grievingstudents.org/) has many resources to help with these difficult conversations. Additionally, if your child is in crisis or needing outside counseling support, resources are available on our website at https://www.mustangps.org/departments/student-assistance/mental-health-assistance.
If you feel your student needs to speak to a counselor or other caring adult, please do not hesitate to call our office to let us know. The direct lines to our counseling offices are 376-7341 or 376-7831. Additionally, if you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our main office and speak to an administrator; we are here to help and partner with you. This is a difficult time for everyone, but I know our students and staff will lean on each other through this sad time.
