As part of National Volunteer Week, Employees with Williams Energy are getting their hands dirty.
About fifty people from Williams and other local organizations came together to pick up trash along the Arkansas River. Russell Vaughn, president of the Tulsa Chapter of Trout Unlimited, thinks the natural beauty of the river is being neglected.
"I have fished on the river quite a few times, so I was familiar with how much trash is out here,” Vaughn said.
They collected many bags of trash filled with everything from Styrofoam cups to broken glass. Nicole Nascenzi, the spokeswoman with Williams, is happy she and her co-workers could focus on making a difference so close to home.

“The Arkansas River is a great resource for us and just one of the many things we have to take care of here in Tulsa,” Nascenzi said.
Vaughn encourages people to pick trash up when they see it.
"We love the ecological features of the river and so we care a lot about it and it's a worthy effort to come out and clean it up,” Vaughn said.
More than a thousand Williams employees around the country are doing different volunteer projects this week.
