Therapy Dog Brings Comfort To Jenks Police Department

Police officers deal with a lot of difficult moments on the job.  Jenks Police Department just got a new way to help them deal with some of that stress.

Lizzy, the department's therapy dog, has become quite popular. She greets people at the doors and makes some of the hard days easier for people there.

Lizzy knows her way around the Jenks Police Department all too well.  

Malea Stoner is a code enforcement officer with the department. She adopted Lizzy from the Jenks shelter about a year ago.

"Fell in love with her the day that I met her," Stoner said. When Stoner brought her into the office, others fell in love too.

"She was as good as any therapy dog that I had," Stoner said, “She's been perfect with the department."

Stoner said she's worked with therapy dogs for more than 20 years and after losing her own emotional support animal, she knew Lizzy could fit the role.

Lizzy has been training for a year and recently became a certified therapy dog after several testing scenarios.

"Therapy dogs can provide a great service for people, and I just think it's important for people to know about them and understand the type of work that they do," Stoner said.

Chief Jason Jackson agrees. "Lizzy has been that critical difference that's put a bright spot on some really tragic situations," Jackson said.
