It's national work zone safety awareness week and ODOT is reminding drivers to slow down in work zones.

The Oklahoma Department Of Transportation new safety campaign ‘Make it home safe, make Oklahoma safe’ is reminding drivers to slow down in work zones.

ODOT said Oklahomans will see over 160 work zones on State highways and turnpikes this year

The ODOT wants to remind drivers to stay off the phone, merge ahead of time, slow down, and don't follow too closely.

ODOT Spokeswoman Lisa Shearer-Salim, said "It's more than just themselves at risk if they make an error in a work zone. Our people are there, and that's where they're working every day and they have families to go home to. We want everyone to get home safe."

In the past five years 91 people have died in Oklahoma work zones, and motorists are more likely to die in work zones than ODOT workers.

ODOT wants to remind drivers that wearing seatbelts increases your chances of surviving a crash by 50%.
