A nonprofit organization established in honor of an Oklahoma County deputy killed in a tragic accident last month. Deputy Jeremy McCain died 10 days after a gate pierced his windshield outside Oklahoma Christian School.

The family created the nonprofit organization called Deputy 041, referencing McCain’s badge number, that teaches CPR classes to the public.

“If everybody just took a four-hour class that could save tons of lives,” said Dallas McCain, brother of the fallen deputy.

Dep. McCain was a single dad and resource officer at Oklahoma Christian School. He was critically injured after crashing his patrol car into a gate outside of the school on March 10. His brother said it was the heroic acts of strangers that helped in those moments after the crash.

“The CPR, getting his heart beating again, it gave us 10 more days with him in the hospital so just that was amazing,” said McCain.

The quick response by those strangers gave the family time to say goodbye and now a way to honor him. Through Deputy 041, the family began giving CPR lessons on Saturday for $45.

“It's been good we had a good turnout,” McCain said. “We had amazing stories people have come here and told us reason why they're taking classes.”

Among them was Ron Carat from Luther. When he had a heart attack last month at Home Depot, he said a 26-year-old employee jumped into action.

“He took it when he was in high school, he had never done it before and so just the instinct kicked in and he did it the right way and that saved my life,” Carat said.

Now Carat said he’s prepared to pay it forward.

“When this came up, I couldn't think of a better cause than to honor a fallen hero there and do it myself,” he said.

Much like those who responded to McCain and his family, in their time of need.

“There's no hugs, thanks, giving money back towards the people that helped us, it's been tremendous,” McCain said.

Deputy 041 plans to hold the classes once a month in Edmond. Go to their Facebook page HERE for more information.

All the proceeds will go to the families of fallen heroes.
