New court filings revealed jealous rage was the possible catalyst behind a deadly shooting at Rose State College.
Midwest City Police identified the suspect as Brandon Morrissette.
According to investigators Morrissette often picked his wife up from school, but on Monday it appeared he went to campus with different intentions.
Gunfire on Rose State College campus sparked chaos Monday afternoon.
“We heard like four shots. I think, I can't remember it all happened so fast,” said student Grace Pilcher.
Student Grace Pilcher said she was visiting with her teacher when they heard a noise and then saw people scatter.
“We’re like what is that? Someone said it’s an active shooter, get out,” said Pilcher.
The school sent out a mass alert informing students, faculty and staff of an active shooter. A professor shared a photo to Facebook after he and students barricaded their doors by stacking desks.
Officers on scene ran toward the gunfire coming from outside a campus building.
“They observe a subject laying on the ground a twenty-year-old victim that was dead,” said Midwest City Police Chief Sid Porter.
The gunman, Brandon Morrissette, 30, immediately gave himself up to police.
“He's down on his knees, with his hands up saying I surrender,” said Porter.
According to court filings Morrissette’s wife told police her husband believed she was having an affair with her fellow classmate. The sobbing woman told police "that was not true and they were just friendly classmates."
“I don’t know what their marriage life is like, if he was a jealous person, I don’t know,” said Porter.
Police said Morrissette did not appear to want to harm anyone else.
“After he shot the victim he put the gun into his backpack and got down, like he did what he was wanting to do,” said Morrissette.
Friends and witnesses identified the victim as RJ Long. They said he died while trying to protect his classmate from her husband.
“At the end of the day, a twenty-year-old’s family is going to have a service for him, and that breaks my heart,” said Porter.
