High school students interested in a career in law enforcement now have the opportunity to join the Moore Police Department this summer.
Hostage negotiations, virtual reality training, ride-alongs and SWAT demonstrations are some of the things students will experience in the Moore Police Department’s Cadet Academy every Tuesday and Thursday in June.
The program is for high school students entering their junior year through seniors who have just graduated.
20 cadets will be selected based upon reference letters and a questionnaire.
Any Oklahoma City metro student can apply, but first preference will be to those in Moore Public Schools.
Officers said being able to connect with students is important and gives real world experience.
“We’re not going to be around forever, and so we want to make sure we’re connecting with our youth," Moore Police detective Terrance Coleman said. "There’s always a group of kids that are excited about or at least curious about being in law enforcement, so we want to continue that and give them all the experiences of what law enforcement can offer."
Applications are due on by 5 p.m. May 1. For more information and to apply, click here.
