Two Westmoore High School students were killed in a crash early Sunday morning in southwest Oklahoma City, police said.
Oklahoma City Police said Kaleb Newport, 18, was traveling westbound near Southwest 119th Street and South Rockwell Avenue at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle departed the roadway before hitting a tree head on, according to police.
Newport and the back seat passenger, Nathan Nguyen, 18, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The front seat passenger was transported to the hospital.
Police said no one in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Moore Public Schools released the following statement:
On April 30, 2023, Moore Public Schools was notified that two of our students passed away in an auto accident. They will be deeply missed by the Westmoore Jaguar family. Another student is at OU Medical Center, but specifics about his status are unknown.
MPS has its 14 Mental Health Team therapists and counselors at WHS today to support our students and employees. We send our heartfelt condolences to all of our families that are hurting over these tremendous losses.
