A new exhibit at the Tulsa Air and Space Museum takes you on a simulated adventure into space.

Students at the University of Tulsa designed the interactive experience.

When you hit the controller, the simulation launches, and suddenly, you're in space. It's the work of a project by seniors in the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Tulsa along with CymSTAR.

The exhibit makes you feel like you're in a personal man-maneuvering unit, or an MMU, in space using these controllers to get the full experience.

You can step back into a chapter of NASA's history with the MMU.

Engineering Architect Zack Kirkendoll says the students came up with the design and structure building the exhibit in just four months.

"So that's kind of what this project brings is hands-on learning experience. It's not just a read about it, it's not just a theory. It's a go do, the hands-on, the interactivity," Kirkendoll said.

The goal is to make it to the space shuttle safely without crashing or running out of fuel.

Alex London is the Museum Curator. He says the hope is for people to get experience-based learning rather than looking at a picture or reading a description.

"But when you have this feeling of weightlessness, you get an idea of some of the astronauts who participated in this and you get a small little piece of what it's really like to be up there," London said.

In late June, the museum will launch the Tuskegee Legacy Exhibit honoring the Tuskegee Airmen.

You can check out another interactive exhibit simulating a P-51 Red Tail aircraft and even try some acrobatic maneuvers.
