A mental health call in Harrah ends with a person in the hospital, not behind bars because of the responding deputies training, the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff Tommy Johnson said a lot of deputies have gone through Crisis Intervention Training, so they are prepared to respond to situations exactly like this.

Oklahoma County deputies were assisting Harrah Police on the call Monday afternoon.

Deputies say the family called because a man was allegedly destroying a house.

When deputies got there, officials said the man ran out of the house and straight at deputies.

He was then tased by one of the deputies.

Instead of being taken to jail, the man was taken to the hospital to be treated.

Sheriff Johnson said they are responding to mental health calls daily.

The sheriff's office said all deputies will be CIT certified by the end of June.

Deputies also go through continuing education programs every year to learn the newest ways to respond to these situations.
