A felony warrant has been issued for the biological mother of an Oklahoma girl found dead in January.
Jasmin Brownfield, the biological mother of Athena Brownfield, is facing two counts of child neglect by abandonment after her 4-year-old daughter's remains were found in Rush Springs on January 17.
A probable cause affidavit said that in April 2021, Jasmin had left Athena and her older sister in the care of Ivon and Alysia Adams.
At the time, Jasmin admitted to having mental health issues and didn’t think she could care for the children, the affidavit said.
The affidavit also stated that Jasmin had failed to maintain communication with Alysia or Ivon about how her children were doing, and she didn’t provide any financial support.
On Jan. 10, 2023, Athena’s older sister was seen wandering near their home in Cyril, Oklahoma, and that’s when authorities discovered Athena was missing.
An investigation with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation led to the discovery of Athena’s remains.
According to authorities investigating the 4-year-old's disappearance, Ivon allegedly killed Athena on Christmas Day in 2022 and buried her on a property he and his wife, Alysia, used to own.
Ivon is already facing one count of child neglect and one count of first-degree murder.
Her other caregiver, Alysia, was arrested on child neglect charges.
