Scissortail Park is always growing and expanding, and the newest addition is going to attract new wildlife to the park.
It's a butterfly and pollinator garden made in partnership with OG&E that will be located right by the boathouse.
The goal is to showcase the importance and beauty of monarch butterflies and pollinators in Oklahoma, which are threatened because plants that support them go are going away due to land development, pesticides and herbicides.
Scissortail said they want to make Oklahoma a sustainable place for these insects to live and wants to teach homeowners how they can also have their own beautiful butterfly garden.
They will have educational programs about the role of pollinators and have free tours of the garden with school field trips coming in the fall.
Maureen Heffernan, CEO of Scissortail Park, said they want to "educate people about native plants, about butterflies and pollinators," she says, "And to just have a gloriously beautiful garden. That's what we're all about here is beauty and education, and this garden does both."
They start planting in a few weeks, then in late summer they expect the monarch migration to be in full swing.
They're hoping monarchs will find the garden a lovely waypoint on their long journey south.
The garden is expected to be done by mid-June; you can of course always come out to enjoy the beautiful sights at Scissortail anytime.
