Shawnee High School seniors are keeping a positive attitude despite COVID-19 disruptions in early high school years and now April's tornado destruction.
Shawnee Schools Superintendent Dr. April Grace said Shawnee students are exceptional and do amazing community service, even volunteering their time to help pick up the pieces.
“I'm just happy to see everyone is okay and we're trying to keep our spirits high.” Shawnee High School senior Olivia Stevenson said.
The High School suffered substantial damage to its main campus causing virtual classes for the rest of the school year, but Dr. Grace said clean-up crews are making great progress.
"It could have been leveled, and lives could have been lost,” Shawnee High School senior Piper McNeil said.
Shawnee Public Schools said the district is working hard to make the last weeks of school as normal as possible for students.
This year's graduation has been moved to the Lloyd Noble Center on OU's campus on May 18 at 7:30 p.m.
