Supporters rallied Tuesday morning at the Oklahoma Capitol, calling for Death Row inmate Richard Glossip’s life to be spared.
The rally started at 10 a.m.
The rally was held nine days before Glossip's scheduled execution on May 18, which is now on hold following an order from the United States Supreme Court.
Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond filed an unprecedented motion for a stay, saying that while he doesn’t believe Glossip is innocent, he didn’t receive a fair trial.
The stay allows the court to consider two appeals filed by Glossip's lawyers.
Glossip is on death row in the murder for hire of Justin Sneed to kill Glossip’s former boss, Barry Van Treese, in 1997.
The family of Van Trese said they believe that Glossip is guilty. They said they feel betrayed by the attorney general's decision to advocate for a new trial for Glossip.
Dr. Phil, Sister Prejean and two Republican representatives, Kevin McDugle and Justin Humphrey, were present and spoke at the rally.
Don Knight, Glossip’s attorney, will also be there to address the crowd.
