May is bike month, and the City of Edmond has a variety of events planned for you to get out and enjoy it
The month kicked off with bike fest, training, casual and mountain bike rides at Arcadia.
The next event that cyclists can participate in is the ride of silence at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday
It'll be a short and slow-paced ride raising awareness for cyclists' rights to public roadways and honoring those injured or killed while riding.
There will be a short ceremony at 6:15 p.m. before the ride at Mitch Park.
Other highlights include bike to work day and bike to worship weekend later this month.
The chair of the Edmond Bicycle Committee, Chase Ray, said the goal of bike month is to increase safety and awareness for cyclists in Edmond.
"So, it's really just about how can we operate safely with cars," he said, "And how can we operate safely with pedestrians, hikers, walkers and joggers and people out walking their dogs."
The City of Edmond is always working to become a more bike-friendly community, adding trails, bike lanes and other bike-friendly infrastructure as the city develops.
Bill Begley with the City of Edmond said more bikers on the road means less cars and ultimately less traffic in the long run.
