OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – From Oklahoma to Africa. Griffin Media and News 9 are excited to announce our next Oklahoma’s Own Original, “Africa Among The Wild,” will air Tuesday, June 6 at 7 p.m.
“We're taking our viewers to the continent of Africa for an up-close look at dozens of amazing animals and the conservation efforts, supported by the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden, that protect them,” said News 9 Director of Content Nathan Elliott.
News 9 anchor Colby Thelen and photojournalist Darrell Vannostran recently joined a group from the Oklahoma City Zoo on a conservation safari. During this one-hour special, they’ll share the conservation efforts being made in Africa that are impacting Oklahomans here at home. Plus, viewers will be able to engage with stunning wildlife and tag along on a gorilla trek through Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda.
“We cannot wait to connect Oklahomans and visitors from across the country to Expedition Africa, its animals and unique guest experiences,” said Dr. Dwight Lawson, OKC Zoo’s executive director/CEO. “Less than one tenth of one percent of all Americans will ever visit the African continent. Expedition Africa is designed to immerse visitors into a space where they can experience Africa’s wildlife like never before while inspiring people to learn more about conservation and how the Zoo is helping these iconic animals thrive.”
“Oklahoma’s Own Originals: Africa Among The Wild” airs on News 9 on Tuesday, June 6 from 7-8 p.m. Viewers will also be able to watch on the News 9 streaming app available to download for free on Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV.
