Under the bright lights with the bats swinging, it’s time for some baseball, for everyone.

With the roar of the crowd cheering them on, Bat Attitudes takes to the diamond at Buck Thomas Park in Moore, every Tuesday from 8 to 9 p.m.

“We wanted to be like every other baseball team out here at the field playing and not just a special needs baseball team,” said Coach Pascal Quintero.

Operated by the Courage League, a local nonprofit, teams are comprised of adults with special needs over the age of 18.

“Every year we try to do bags, and we try to get our team bats, new equipment, stuff like that, where they can feel like every other kid,” said Quintero.

Whether it’s batting, catching, running or dancing, players and volunteers are having a blast.

Andrew has been playing with the team since its inception seven years ago and is the ultimate outfielder.

“Play in the field, catch the ball, just about had it one time, ended up missing, still counts though,” said Bat Attitude player Max.

This is Max’s first year on the field, and while he loves playing, he’s earned the nickname Casanova.

“Pretty much because I attract the girls, I'm just going to be honest about that,” said Max.

“We do take volunteers, you know we have different companies that come out for each game from sometimes the high schools,” said Quintero.

Volunteers help the players run the bases and field the balls, essentially ensuring the safety of the players.

The league is now being operated under the Moore Youth Baseball Association. They hope to make more modifications to the field to allow players in wheelchairs to participate.

“If you’re ever having a bad day on Tuesday, come out, watch them, they’ll put a smile on your face. It's like a ray of sunshine when you’re having a bad day,” said Quintero.

There are about three weeks left in the season, and volunteers are always needed. Any donations are appreciated and are tax deductible. For information visit the team’s Facebook page Bat Attitudes Courage League Special Needs Baseball.
