Legislation that could extend current and recently expired tax compacts with tribes in Oklahoma through 2024 is on Gov Stitt's desk.

Senate Bill 26X originally sought to extend the compact for a tobacco tax for 5 years, until criticism from Gov. Stitt prompted the bill to be scaled back.

The bill now extends the compacts through December 2024.

Lawmakers also signed off on House Bill 1005X, extending the state's vehicle tag compacts with Cherokee, Choctaw and Chickasaw nations for the same amount of time.
