The Space X Dragon Capsule reentered the Earth's atmosphere late Tuesday night. Before it splashed down into the Gulf of Mexico, Amy Oglesbee happened to be out in her yard and saw the fiery light in the sky.
"It was truly a vibrant red," Oglesbee said. "The tail on it was long and just as red. It was going across the sky so fast."
According to Space X’s website, the rocket contained 4 astronauts that had been in space at the international space station for nine days. At the time, Amy didn't know what it was but said it looked like it was very close.
"I thought that it was going to hit somewhere in Oklahoma or some surrounding states, but for it to be going to Florida was surprising because it did look so close," Oglesbee said.
Quenton Sowell was also outside at the right moment.
"We thought it was a meteor and then we started to get goosebumps and got really excited about it," Sowell said.
They both say it's something they will always remember seeing.
"You know you don't just get out of your car all the time and see something like that," Sowell said. "Planes are something you see every day, but something that is a ball of light that is very scary looking, it gets more and more exciting once you realize what you just saw."
"The bravery it took to take on a mission to do this to help all of us and increase the space program," Oglesbee said. "Getting up there and getting back through is very courageous."
