A Tulsa man who had murder charges against him dropped back in January, is now accused of robbing two innocent people just weeks later.

Marland Hill had been charged with murder in a 2021 shootout, where one of his friends was killed.

After the murder charges were dropped, Hill was put on a 10-year suspended sentence for conspiracy to commit a felony in that case.

Robbery detectives said Hill is a violent guy and they are glad he's back in jail.

Tulsa Police Robbery Investigators said two robberies happened within hours of each other back in February, where innocent victims were ambushed in their driveways at gun point.

Investigators said the same car was used in both.

"They were randomly driving, looking for specific victims, targeting victims that aren't paying attention, unloading their cars, crime of opportunity, they don't know the victims. These are the type of people we don't want on the streets,” said Lieutenant Justin Ritter.

Ritter said they were able to identify the suspects as Hill, a juvenile, and a woman. They said they researched Hill and realized he had been involved in a 2021 murder investigation.

"Basically he gets this deferred sentence January 30th, then here we are 19 or 20 days later in February and he's doing armed robberies,” said Ritter. “It is frustrating when you see a lot of these sentences because the detectives work hard, patrol officers work hard to make arrests, and a lot of times the sentences don't seem like they fit the crime."

Investigators said they believe Hill was the driver during the robberies and was picking the random targets to rob.

Robberies happen every day and are often drug deals or between people who know each other, investigators said.

However, investigators said these cases were tough to solve because the victims were random, innocent people.

"When we have a true victim, someone that is being preyed upon by a group of people, we really run on those. We will pound them, just like the homicide unit does when I was over there,” said Ritter.

Hill and the juvenile are both charged with the robberies, but the case is still under investigation.

Records show Hill was charged with accessory to murder in a 2020 murder case, but those charges were dismissed.
