Inola Power Restoration Underway After Storm Damage

Power restoration has begun in Inola, where falling trees and limbs took down lines that are still being repaired.

Two large hay barns collapsed in the storm, and a rafter flew through the bedroom window of a nearby house, where the residents had taken shelter in a tub.

“It was just whistling, there were no stops in it and I just thought, 'My God, what's going to happen?'” said Richard Sanders.

Their house was left with only a partial roof, and water damaged nearly everything inside.

They’re looking for a place to move, recognizing there are few available houses nearby.

Many houses in Inola have some damage and nearly every tree is missing limbs.

Several trees fell onto houses and cars, and the streets are lined with limbs, many gathered up by church groups that volunteered to help.

Melba McKinney was grateful for the help, coming after a tree fell on and damaged a new roof they had installed last Wednesday.

Bonnie Hudson and her husband are cleaning up at a relative's house, which was blocked by limbs.

“It was pretty bad, buried under all this,” said Hudson. “So we're going to do some cutting and get it cleaned up for her.”

Some businesses are without power and closed, while homeowners bear the heat without air conditioning.
