Christian Gurrola, the man shot and killed in a road rage incident in Norman on July 18, leaves a legacy on a youth softball team he helped coach.
The Silverstars Softball team has dozens of players across its varying age-group teams. Gurrola was one of the handful of coaches who met weekly to practice with the girls during their seasons.
Head coach Clayton Bointy said Gurrola truly loved the team.
“When I reached out to them Wednesday morning to give phone calls of Christian’s passing, every one of them was ready to tackle mountains to help,” Bointy said.
Funeral services for Gurrola were held on Saturday.
62-year-old Mark Kottka has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder for the incident.
Gurrola’s family declined interviews, but his sister shared a statement with News 9.
“We will never be able to forgive the man that committed this crime,” Veronica Gurrola wrote. “There’s extreme heartache for family and friends that will not heal easily.”
Despite his own daughter aging out of the softball program, Gurrola continued to volunteer his time.
“He was ready to come back and help with whatever it was that we needed,” Bointy said.
Gurrola leaves behind three kids. Coaches and families of Silverstars Softball organized a GoFundMe to support his family with funeral expenses and for his kids.
