An Air Force Veteran passing through Oklahoma City, left devastated this week. His car was broken into and cleaned out, all while he stayed in the Springhill Suites by the airport. The incident happened just days after he retired from the Air Force.

"Kinda sad right, after 24 years of hearing people in the grocery store saying thank you for your service and this is kind of the way that it ends," Daniel Javorsek, the Veteran, said.

He and his family we’re making a cross-country drive to relocate after his retirement.

"Our last stop before we made it here to Tennessee was in Oklahoma City," he explained. "Out of absence of mind forgot to grab a couple of bags that were pretty important."

The next morning when he came down from his room, he noticed that both of his back windows were broken. "It definitely has this heavy sinking feeling," he recounted.

Laptops, a guitar, military memorabilia and personal documents were all stolen out of his car, but there was something that hit Javorsek even harder.

"Several years ago, my daughter, she was six at the time, got ahold of one of those notebooks," he explained. "She wrote on one of the pages 'daddy you're the only man in my heart' and you know stuff like that that just makes you go ‘oh I want to keep that.’"

Bags full of family mementos like that were gone as well.

According to the police report filed with the Oklahoma City Police Department, "most of the notes were inside the computer bags, which were stolen,” and may have appeared more valuable to a thief.

But at the end of the day, Javorsek cares most about the irreplaceable items

"Taking a bunch of the personal stuff that isn’t going to sell well or mean near as much to them is what we’re trying to reconstitute if we can," Javorsek said.

He hopes someone may have a change of heart.

"The best way to thank an airman, a soldier, a sailor, is to be someone worth serving for,” he said. “And that's not necessarily someone who breaks into cars."
