A community-based nonprofit metro organization has announced the launch of Oklahoma’s first community violence intervention program for Ward 7.

LiveFree OKC made the announcement Monday, and the launch events will begin with a press conference at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Eastpoint breezeway near Northeast 23rd Street and North Hood Street.

The press conference will include remarks from Executive Director Jabee Williams, Ward 7 Councilwoman Nikki Nice and LiveFree USA pastor Michael McBride.

Williams released the following statement with the announcement:

“I lost my little brother to gun violence when we were young, so the aim of these prevention measures hit very close to home for me. It has been something we have been working very hard on for the past couple of years, and I am so grateful for all the support we’ve had to finally get us here. We believe this program can and will dramatically reduce violence in our communities, and I can’t think of a more important issue to devote my life to.”
