USWNT Draws With Portugal, Advances To Group Of 16

The United States Women's National Team played Portugal Tuesday evening in New Zealand, with the match beginning at 2 a.m. Central Time.

For the full 90 minutes of play, both teams remained scoreless, despite multiple shots on goal by the USWNT.

In the extra eight minutes of stoppage time allotted following the end of regulation, the USWNT saw a near miss by Portugal that would have given them a 1-0 lead, but missed, hitting the upright.

Neither team was able to score, ending the game in a draw.

Following the results of the match, the Netherlands and the USWNT advance to the Group of 16, finishing first and second in Group E, respectively.

Portugal and Vietnam finished third and fourth, and were eliminated from the tournament.
