Police arrested 25-year-old Rubin Marin after a deadly hit-and-run crash near Southwest 56th and May Avenue.

“When officers arrived, they found a female lying in the southbound lanes of May,” Lt. Jeff Cooper with the Oklahoma City Police Department said.

Police said the victim was crossing the road in an area that was not well lit when Marin hit her. The suspect abandoned his truck down the street and left on foot.

“They later found a black Chevy Silverado that was abandoned in the 6000 block of south May,” Cooper said. “That appears to be the vehicle that hit the female.”

A witness led officers to the driver. Marin was arrested, and police said he showed signs of intoxication. The unidentified victim died at a local hospital. Three hours later, police were called to another deadly auto-pedestrian crash near Interstate 240 and Sunnylane Road.

“Officers arrived and found the motorcycle collided with the pedestrian and was able to drive from the scene,” Captain Benjamin Weir with the Oklahoma City Police Department said. “Went back and checked on the person they collided with.”

Police said the female victim was wearing all black and walking in the middle of the road on the I-240 bridge when she was hit. According to investigators, it was still dark outside and there were no lights on the bridge. The motorcyclist was not arrested.

“He was just at the wrong place at the wrong time,” Weir said. “He is being questioned by the accident investigators but that’s it.”

Weir said city streets are dangerous at night for pedestrians.

“In Oklahoma City in the last 24 hours or so we’ve had three accidents involving a pedestrian in some way,” Weir said.

Weir urged those walking to take extra precautions near roadways.

“If you’re going to be walking anywhere near the street,” Weir said. “You need to be wearing clothes where people can see you.”
