Police: Woman Killed Was "Riding" On The Outside Of A Vehicle

Police have located a driver who left the scene of a roadway incident where a woman was found lying unconscious and later died.   

Police were called to the intersection of Northwest Expressway and Wilshire Boulevard after several motorists witnessed Inez Garcia, 23, fall from a vehicle.

At the time of the incident police were trying to determine if the woman fell, jumped, or was thrown from the car.

“There were several bystanders that stopped to help, saw a person in the roadway and contacted police,” said Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Dillon Quirk.

In a report a responding officer noted a large amount of blood pooled around the victim’s head. He said he also observed her breathing every few seconds.

“Police arrived and that person appeared to have been injured badly, weren’t quite sure what the circumstances were at first,” said Quirk.  

After speaking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance video from a nearby gas station police found video of the woman.

“Showed that person was on top of the vehicle, when the vehicle turned, they fell from the vehicle and the driver continued on,” said Quirk.

Police determined Garcia had been riding on the outside of the moving vehicle.

“For whatever reason the passenger from inside that vehicle was on top of the vehicle, unsecured,” said Quirk.

Police said the driver, another 23-year-old-woman, was eventually tracked down and questioned.

“It will be up to investigators to determine was this an intentional act, which it isn’t looking like at this point, or just a tragic accident?” said Quirk.
