The Tinker Air Force Base is going back to normal after a suspicious package sparked an evacuation Tuesday afternoon.

Tinker Air Force Base said they were investigating a suspicious package that was found during a routine inspection of the Gott Gate.

What prompted the search?

The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office said a truck was being swept in security when a sensor detected an explosive device. Every package inside of the truck was tested and came out clean, according to the sheriff's office. They believe there may have been something to trigger the sensor, like ammunition or medication, the sheriff's office said.

Why was the Boeing facility evacuated?

Boeing said they evacuated their facility out of precaution because "something is happening at Tinker, not Boeing."

72nd Air Base and installation commander Col. Abby Ruscetta released the following statement Wednesday:

“The training and professionalism of our defenders from the 72nd Security Forces played a crucial role yesterday during routine sweeps of delivery vehicles entering the installation. During the search of one vehicle, a suspicious package was detected prompting them to take precautionary measures to ensure the vehicle could be further inspected while maintaining the safety and security of the installation. I am proud of the swift and professional conduct of all involved. Security and safety of the installation and all who come and go is a top priority.”

Tinker Air Force Base said the following in a post on social media Tuesday afternoon:

Special control measures were activated at Tinker's truck gate. Security Forces has cordoned off the area around Gott Gate on the south side of the base. Any possible affected buildings within the cordon have been notified for evacuation and personnel are asked to avoid this area

The Gott Gate, which is located on the southwest side of the base, was closed as the scene was investigated.

Jim Gardner with Bob Mills SkyNews 9 was over the scene and said he saw many agents searching trucks near the closed gate.
